ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Maegan Brown (Velvastein) is a visual artist based out of Los Angeles California. Self taught and deeply passionate, the arts have sustained a lasting and defining element of the artists life. Finding inspiration in most things, like tales from history, mythological scripture and the natural world, her work embodies a very mystical and euphoric aura. Her art captures the essence of nature and depicts her subjects in dream-like surroundings. Her work is most recognizable for her stylized depictions and celebration of the female embodiment, adorned with intricate line work and explosive use of color and texture. Expressing a strong and celestial observation of the female presence. Through natural symbolic representation and illusive scenery, her work depicts a visual exploration of dreams, and our fascination with giving them meaning. Her expressions are thought provoking in the sense that the story is told and understood the way the viewer instinctively interprets or imagines it. Giving the audience complete power over the experience. Brown currently displays works and performs live at local art exhibitions, festivals and galleries through out the Los Angeles area, and is currently compiling a new collection for future exhibition.
ABOUT THE BRAND:
VELVASTEIN, as a brand, was started in early 2020. As a one-woman operation, VELVASTEIN creates apparel that is designed, printed and personalized by the owner/artist. All artwork displayed on her products are hand drawn illustrations, often inspired or derived from the artists' personal collection of works. Some of the up-cycled personalized one of a kind items may feature hand painted images or motifs. Patchwork is also applied by hand, giving each piece a very personalized feel and a sense of connection to the maker. As a female run business, the art of the craft and attention to detail always comes first, ensuring that every garment is carefully crafted to the highest standards.
VELVASTEIN items are made in limited quantities to minimize waste in an effort to contribute a brand that is environmentally friendly, ethically made and artistically influenced. Screen printed products are hand dyed and hand printed, each piece is unique, making no two the same. All artwork graphics are hand drawn and then transferred to various printing methods by the artists and applied individually to each garment, using only the highest quality materials, making each article of clothing a hand crafted work of art that will last for years to come.
The "Wearable Art Collection" features artwork and patterns created and printed onto the finest fabrics and sewn into specialized wear such as tops, dresses and kimonos. Scarves in part of this collection are printed on the finest selected silks that boast the luxury and beauty in the artworks they showcase.
